Three train crossings on the route, six hours travel time, nine vehicles a lot of operation on the Harz narrow gauge railways
It starts with train 8953 pulled by 99 7246-4 from Gernrode. 20.00 DM is the fun for the trip from Gernrode to Wernigerode. The departure from Alexisbad to Harzgerode and back is charged separately by the train crew with 2.00 DM. In Sternhaus-Ramberg we cross the counter-train 8954 pulled by 99 5906-5, which already waits for us there. Here we have reached the highest breakpoint. Now it goes down to Alexisbad.
At the station building in Alexisbad there is the old departure board from the enamel factory Schulze & Wehrmann in Elberfeld (now Wuppertal-Elberfeld) with the departure times of trains to Gernrode, Harzgerode, Brocken, Straßberg and Stiege / Nordhausen. After a short stay to supplement the water supply there, we continue uphill to Harzgerode station. In this terminus the children group which came from Alexisbad leaves the train. After transferring to the other end of the train at Harzgerode terminus, 99 7246-4 takes us back to Alexisbad as train 8956 and continues from there without us back to Gernrode. When driving into the station Alexisbad we have a parallel entrance with the railcar 187 012-0, which enters as train 8968 from Hasselfelde.
The train crews of both trains at the Alexisbad train station take a short break. We still wait for the exit of the 99 7246-4 to Gernrode and then drive with railcar 187 012-0 as train 8969 on the Selketalbahn via Stiege to the station Eisfelder Talmühle on the Harzquerbahn. In Stiege we cross train 8964, which is traveling from Nordhausen Nord to Gernrode with 99 7232-4. At the entrance to Eisfelder Talmühle there is a parallel entrance with 99 7238-1, which arrives there with train 8905 from Wernigerode. In Eisfelder Talmühle we are waiting for the third train. Pulled by 99 6001-4, train 8904 from Nordhausen Nord arrives at Wernigerode. Here, too, the water supplies are replenished at the two steam locomotives.
After 99 7238-1 had left with her train to Nordhausen Nord we continue on train 8904 pulled by 99 6001-4 towards Wernigerode. At the station Benneckenstein we cross with train 8929 as railcar 187 013-8. This continues in the direction of Eisfelder Talmühle. When heading into Drei Annen Hohne we see parallel to us through the forest and across the road train 8921 pulled by 99 7239-9 coming from the Brocken to Drei Annen Hohne.
Here in Drei Annen Hohne is in full swing. Next to our train with 99 6001-4 engine 99 7244-9 with train 8939 from Wernigerode to Brocken is pulling into the station. On the other side of the track is 99 7239-9, which had come by train from the Brocken. After a short staff meeting in front of the 99 7239-9, it goes down to Wernigerode, where the train runs through the narrow streets in the direction of Wernigerode Westerntor.
